Accumulation and evolution of ice jams influenced by different ice discharge: An experimental analysis

چکیده
Ice jam, a unique hydrological phenomenon of rivers in cold regions, is major cause ice flooding. There are many different kinds damage that can result from jams: e.g., blockage the water flow, rising levels flood farmland and dwellings, to hydraulic structures, interruptions shipping. The formation an jam influenced by various factors associated with fields study. accumulation thus complex process worth investigating. However, previous studies seldom take account discharge factors. This study carries out 29 tests on discovers four phenomena: inlet fails submerge (case 1); thickening upstream downstream 2); 3); failure form 4). Two typical examples used detail cases 2 3. authors suggest differentiating between two using longitudinal boundary line running through point Froude number (Fr) = 0.119. Furthermore, analyze phenomena make it difficult for critical discriminant distinguish 3 4. Combined line, partition diagram features jams presented differentiate modes jams.

Production of Ice Nucleation Deficient (Ice-) Mutants of the Epiphytic Strains of Erwinia herbicola
To mutate the Ice Nucleation Active (INA) gene in Erwinia herbicola strains, Tn-5 transposon carried by Psup2021 plasmid was used. This plasmid was transferred to the bacterial cells by electroporation. Electrotransformation was carried out for 2.5 ms at 1800 v and 1 mm distance between the electrodes. Polymerase chain reaction was used for determination of presence or loss of INA gene, using a...

متن کاملNumerical and Experimental Analysis of Ice Melting in Water
The numerical simulation of ice melting in water considering temperature-dependent material properties and phase-change effects is proposed in this work. The governing differential equations (continuity, linear momentum and energy) are spatially discretized within the finite element method together with a implicit Euler scheme for the time derivatives. The melting of ice initially at –4.3 ºC an...
متن کاملInferring palaeo-accumulation records from ice-core data by an adjoint-based method: application to James Ross Island’s ice core
Ice cores contain a record of snow precipitation that includes information about past atmospheric circulation and mass imbalance in the polar regions. We present a novel approach to reconstruct a climatic record – by both optimally dating an ice core and deriving from it a detailed accumulation history – that uses an adjoint-based method. The motivation of our work is the recent application of ...
